Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo: the same images in eight steps
Released on 9 October 2026: a faster checkpoint of Qwen-Image-2.1 that makes and edits images in eight steps, including transparent ones.
By The Crewnema team
Alibaba’s Qwen team released Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo on 9 October 2026. It is an accelerated version of Qwen-Image-2.1, which came out on 20 September. These are the points from the model card.
What the Qwen team published
- The same 7B model as Qwen-Image-2.1, packaged to make an image in 8 steps instead of about 40.
- Text-to-image and editing from an input picture, including combining several references.
- Images with a transparent background, which suits product cut-outs.
- Large outputs, up to 2752 by 1536 in 16:9 and 2048 by 2048 square, with matching vertical sizes.
- Open weights on Hugging Face under the Qwen Research License, which does not by itself allow commercial use, and a hosted API on Alibaba Cloud.
Our view
Eight steps instead of forty mostly means cheaper and faster, which matters more to a business making many variations than a small gain in polish does. Transparent images are the practical feature: a product on no background can be placed onto any scene, which is how most product adverts are put together. Read the licence before running the open weights for anything you sell; the hosted API is the simpler route.

In Crewnema
Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo is not on Crewnema’s roster. An earlier Qwen model, Qwen Image Edit Plus, composes the keyframes at the Free and Low levels, placing your photo of a person or product into the shot. The levels are explained here.
