Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite: cheap video with sound

Available from early October 2026: clips of up to 15 seconds with sound, at a fraction of the full model’s price.

Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite is a smaller, cheaper version of xAI’s Grok Imagine Video 1.5. It appeared on model platforms in the first week of October 2026; OpenRouter lists 6 October and Vercel announced it on 8 October. We could not find an announcement from xAI itself, so these points come from the platforms that host it.

Our view

Cheap video with sound is exactly what a draft needs. The expensive mistake in AI video is finishing a clip from a script nobody checked, and a low-cost model that still makes sound lets you hear the timing of an advert before you pay for the final version. We would not use the Lite model for the finished advert; it says on the label that it gives up quality.
